RH Bill No. 5043

SECTION 1. Short Title. – This Act shall be known as the “Reproductive Health and Population Development Act of 2008“.

Reproductive Health meaning the people will be taught how to use the modern methods and the natural methods. They will not be forced to do such, but they will be educated on the possibilities.
The education is much needed because the Filipinos nowadays don’t think about their actions anymore. People get drunk and produce unwanted babies. People enjoy sex and produce unwanted babies. Poor women get into prostitution because they need money, and they are not protected. If the RH bill continues then the Filipinos will be educated to know the effects present in doing such actions.
Do the children need to figure out themselves about the realities in life? About sex? At the age of 10 there are kids in the Philippines who are already sexually active. Sorry for my words, but Vaginas and penises don’t grow when we reach the age of 18. People nowadays become more and more curious on what’s happening in the world. People get more access to porn sites and porn materials. We can see hookers before and after going to parties, or schools or wherever we went. These people are not educated enough because they are doing such things, if they were educated, they would know the dangers. In Universities, how many scandals have been released to public. In other Universities people use sex as a method for them to get to pay their tuition. Women should know how to care for themselves, there are many ways to get money and they shouldn’t just sell themselves to perverts outside their schools to get to pay their tuition fees. It defeats the purpose of being educated.
Population Development, A study was shown saying that the reproductive health bill will eliminate the rate of people being born in the Philippines, when it is man power that gives the Philippines life.
From what I understand, or For me.
Overpopulation has been one of the problems the Philippines had been facing for the longest time. There are not enough jobs present in the Philippines and most of the professionals in the Philippines migrated or worked abroad because the Philippines cannot provide for them. The government will be able to help the Filipinos in a way that every year graduates will be able to be employed to the jobs they really want. They wouldn’t be underemployed or unemployed. If there were more Filipinos fighting for a position then it will be a bigger problem. I know what some of the poor people are thinking because I got to talk to some of them, and they do agree that they need to know more about their health and life.
The anti-rh bill people are saying that all the taxes will go to condoms and stuff like that, but no, they will benefit from this bill because they will get access to the clinics that will be available in their area. How many women are giving birth every day in a shared hospital room? Why is this happening? It’s not because hospital rooms are lacking but because many unwanted babies are being brought to the world.

Members of Pro-Life Philippines, led by President Eric Manalang, harass RH Bill supporters, which included mothers from the Democratic Socialist Women of the Philippines (DSWP) and members of the Filipino Freethinkers (FF).

This video clearly shows

1) that although the RH supporters were denied entry, Marita Wasan, executive director of Pro-Life Philippines, told them that they could wait outside while the mass was going on. They were not asked to leave (at least not until Manalang's outburst.)

2) that there was no "exchange" of harsh words -- all the insults and violence came from the Anti-RH side.

3) that the RH Supporters were respectful -- they were silent and calm even when Manalang and others insulted the RH Supporters and even shoved and tried to take away the cameras of some.

4) that Manalang and Pro-Life Philippines, aside from calling RH Supporters "Satan" also resorted to the following insults:

* "[A Catholic supporting the RH Bill] is an oxymoron" (in response to one of the DSWP mothers saying that she was still a Catholic despite her support for the RH Bill).

* "Your mother should have aborted you" (several Pro-Life members were recorded shouting this while the RH Supporters were leaving Manila Cathedral)

This is an article and a video from the Filipino freethinkers. I just realized from the view point of the president of the pro-life, the people who are Pro rh bill are people who are demons and sons of satan. If they were really for the church they wouldn’t say so, they were cursing and giving names.
And, they should have been aborted? Why would he say that? He should have been aborted then.
I think it is right to take the bill seriously, but people have no right to hurt others physically or emotionally or in whatever such way they can.

Reaction on priests asking to people to leave during mass.

Reaction on priests asking to people to leave during mass.

Full article here.

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – A priest at the Baguio Cathedral drew flak from some Catholics after he ordered people supporting the reproductive health bill to leave the church and stop hearing Mass.

I believe that this action is very childish. Is God Biased? Would he ask us if we die if we supported the RH bill? I believe that what the priest did was wrong because he’s forcing people to do what he thinks is right. God gave people free will and he’s taking it away from the people. What if the person who is supporting the RH bill is sincere in his going to mass, the priest has no right to ask him to leave because he’s there to listen to the word of God, and he’s not there to talk about the RH bill.
"Kung meron nakikimisa dito pero pro-RH bill… Please, go out. It's useless," the priest said.
Why? Does it make the pro reproductive health bill people devils? This is wrong because as what I have said, Going to mass is different from discussing the bill itself, I don’t think I would stand it if I wanted to pray and the priest will go on defending the RH bill, when in fact he should be discussing about what happened in the life of Jesus. What he did was so wrong.
The prelate also criticized Hontiveros-Baraquel. "Ang ganda-gandang babae niya...pero ang pangit-pangit ng stand niya."
Does this mean that people will be judged according to their stands? I don’t think this is right. First of all, the priest doesn’t have to include names and why is he judging people. Does being a priest give him the right to do so? This article is very shocking because you wouldn’t think that any priest in the right mind would do so.

After doing such act, the priest left for vacation. Why?
He can’t defend his stand anymore? What he did was wrong and it was an insult to all Catholics. I think that discussing the Reproductive health bill should not be done inside churches because people there are trying to understand and hear mass, not the Reproductive health bill. People want to hear the words of Jesus, not the words of any priest who would tell people to change what they believe in. Seriously? If I was there I would be in rage. The priest didn’t respect the rights of a person, also he needs to review on what the commandment says. He is not God, and he has no right to tell a person to not go to church because of what they believe in. The sermon shouldn’t be about the RH bill because where in history did politics and the church become one. There should be a separation of the church and the government.
I’m not anti-church. I’m just saying that what that priest did was too far.

If birth control is a "health program" then the single most serious disease in the Philippines today is pregnancy.

If birth control is a "health program" then the single most serious disease in the Philippines today is pregnancy.

People think that the RH BILL says that being pregnant is a sickness. But it doesn’t go that way, from what I believe the RH Bill is saying that being pregnant may also have negative effects that can be prevented if the couple knows how to control and plan what might happen in the long run. The reproductive health bill doesn’t say that pregnant women will be treated in a way that they are sick, the bill says that they will protect women through the programs that will be done if the reproductive health bill is passed.

One of the programs will be an education to families, these are the modern and the natural ways of preventing pregnancy. It teaches the couple when the female is fertile and if ever they want to use contraceptives, they will be allowed to do so, the education given to them will include the positive effects of using contraceptives and also the negative effects. The bill will not promote abortion, it will prevent it. The couple will have the freedom to choose if they want to do such or not, the couple will not be coerced to follow what the educator is saying.

Coverage of RH. (1) Information and access to natural and modern family planning (2) Maternal, infant and child health and nutrition (3) Promotion of breast feeding (4) Prevention of abortion and management of post-abortion complications (5) Adolescent and youth health (6) Prevention and management of reproductive tract infections, HIV/AIDS and STDs (7) Elimination of violence against women (8) Counseling on sexuality and sexual and reproductive health (9) Treatment of breast and reproductive tract cancers (10) Male involvement and participation in RH; (11) Prevention and treatment of infertility and (12) RH education for the youth.
From the philippine Inquirer.

1. Educates the couple to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
2. It teaches the couple how to provide for their children
3. Breast feeding makes the baby healthy and the mother of the child needs to have a clean and healthy lifestyle to do so. There are many things to be considered during pregnancy and the RH bill will teach women on how to do so.
4. THE RH BILL PREVENTS ABORTION. And if a couple decides to abort a child, the bill provides health center in which these people will be allowed to cope up and be taken care of because of the bad effects that may happen.
5. The children will be taught about the hazards and possibilities if they engage in these actions, we cannot escape the fact that there are many young women or teenagers giving birth in the Philippines and they are not prepared to handle such things.
6. Teaches people on how to prevent sexually transmitted diseases
7. Women will be taken care of that they will be given a choice to decide what they want in life if they were abused or raped.
8. Counseling to inform couples about sexuality and how they can take care of themselves
9. The rh bill also provide help in the treatment of breast cancer
10. The bill teaches men on how they should be involved in the situation.
11. Prevents couples to take actions that may be the source of infertility and such
12. Teaches the youth about the effects of doing such actions.

The Church with Contraceptives

The Church with Contraceptives

The church doesn’t agree that contraceptives are Medically Safe. They made a post wherein they said that the uses of contraceptives are dangerous because of the effects it may bring to the mother.
Here are the examples of what the church said.

1. Pills (these are the ones taken by the females to not be fertile or the so-called-birth control pills)

a. According to the church, pills can cause hypertension, stroke, diabetes, goiter, cancer, etc.
2. Depo-Provera

a. Causes diabetes, bleeding, cancer and will increase the risk of having chlamydia and gonorrhea.
3. IUD

a. Can cause infection, perforation of the uterus and bleeding
4. Condom (Female or Male)

a. Gives the couple a sense of security in which it can be considered as fake because many times condoms fail. Condoms increase the frequency of sexual activity and it increases the risk of having Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Aids.
These contraceptives do not offer much protection and most of the times these contraceptives fail.
How?
1. If the condom has a rate of 30 percent chance of failure because the sperm can escape from the latex, then there is also a chance that diseases will be able to escape from condoms. If a sperm can escape from the condom, then AIDS can transfer faster because it is 450 times smaller than the sperm.

According to the church, why use contraceptives if manpower is much needed in the country. OFWs give importance to the country and since man is an asset in this country, why should the Filipinos allow their fellow Filipinos to use contraception to reduce the creation of more assets.
If there will be more Filipinos, there will be more problem, nowadays, countries are only allowing a number of Filipino workers present in their countries because of many issues. We cannot always rely on OFWs because the only good thing they are bringing us are the remittances and the popularity given to Filipinos. But they don’t really get paid much and they are not treated well out of the country, if the Philippines would make professionals in the country, those who were planned by the Filipinos then, the country would be able to develop more, we wouldn’t have to rely on people going abroad for jobs, but instead, the Filipinos will be working for Filipinos, the Filipinos will be helping their fellow Filipinos. I’m not saying that the OFWS are not bringing any good to the Philippines. Actually, they are, they are becoming the hope of our country, but what happens if other countries wouldn’t let Filipinos work for them anymore, There are so many Filipinos in the country trying to work abroad and when they go there what do they get? Don’t they get harassed or mistreated by others? I’m not saying all, but we do get bad reports coming from other countries and I believe that Filipinos need to work for their country in their country.

More Church Arguments to Comment on…

More Church Arguments to Comment on…

1. How can population development be achieved if the RH bill is passed.

a. According to the church if the Reproductive health bill is passed, the number of Filipinos being born will drastically reduce the population.
i. My understanding would be, yes there will be a change in the number of Filipinos being born but the number wouldn’t affect that much because the Reproductive health Bill will not stop people from producing children but it will only lessen the amount of children being born because of family planning which the couple will be able to choose if they would want to do so or not. So, it’s a matter of choice if the couple wants to have kids or not. It’s not the bill saying to couples to stop making babies because the population in the Philippines is too much. What the bill is saying that the people need to be educated about their health. It’s not that couples should stop making children it’s always a choice if they would be able to bring up their children. Health, Education and Other factors will be taught to the couple. Should they bring up or not, because having children is not as easy as taking care of animals. It should be planned and the couples must be so prepared for it. Having a child is not as enjoying as making the child.

b. The population will be composed of sick people

i. Like my last blog post, the reproductive health bill will not harm people because there have been studies on the family planning process that people will receive if they choose to educate themselves. It has been proven that there are more people who are dying because of other instances compared to using these prescribed contraceptives. The ratio given by the UN is 1 out of 1000 and I guess it wouldn’t be as harmful as what the church is saying. If there are medical proofs then I believe that the use of contraception is safe and that the rh bill has no plans of harming the people in the country.

c. The future generation or the pag-asa ng bayan will be killed.

i. Again, by allowing Rh bill to happen, when couples are educated, the number of children being brought in the Philippines does not stop. It lessens. We cannot assume that the next Einstein would be brought up in the Philippines but since his father used a condom, he wasn’t able to bring him up anymore. WE CAN’T SAY THAT. What the church is doing is that they always assume things. The RH Bill will not kill people. The Contraceptives are not Genocides. Being educated is a choice by the couple and the use of contraception is also a choice. The couple has a choice on whether he wants to have 8 kids, 20 kids, or what number he might think of, the RH bill is just to educate the couple and provide options to make the child’s life a safer one, if they choose to have one.

The Church's Definition Of the Reproductive Health Bill.

The Church's Definition Of the Reproductive Health Bill.

According to the Catholic Church, The Reproductive health bill is defined as.
1. People will be allowed to have free sex with the use of contraceptives and it will allow abortion if the given or taken contraceptive fails to work
2. The Reproductive health Bill is an attack to human life, the family, and the values we have in our Filipino culture.
3. The bill is oppressive to the religious belief and it removes the idea of the morality in the family and the public.
4. The Reproductive health bill hides many meaning to the public like the terms and programs being offered by the bill.
5. For the Church, Contraceptives are poison to the womb, it may render the couple to be infertile or sterile, it will increase the sexual activity in the Philippines which will increase the possibility of having sexually transmitted diseases or AIDS.

According to the Reproductive Health Bill
1. Contraceptives Do not have life threatening side-effects.
2. The effects of the contraceptives that will be given to couples are medically and scientifically proven to show that there are no possible medical risks to the users.
3. The Bill does not say that pregnancy is a sickness, but what the bill wants to do is that couples will have the choice to use contraceptives to be able to plan what he wants to happen in the family.
4. The bill is NOT Pro-Abortion
5. Reports by the UN show that countries with higher population score lower in human development and the rank of the Filipinos have been going down every year and we’re becoming the most consistent country with the worst performance in South East Asian Countries. Studies show that there is a link between a huge population and the country being poor.
6. Family Planning is more needed than contraceptives, Family planning does not tell the couple to use contraceptives because people know that not all can afford contraceptives.

After weighing down what the Church and the Bill is saying, I would go for what is written in the bill. I am Pro Reproductive health Bill because I want change in our country. It’s not that I am against the church or I want to have access to these items, but I believe that the Philippines need to be educated. Family planning is a hard thing to teach and what the church is asking us to do is hard (well, I don’t know for others). We’re in a society where in many people are not like the olden times in which the old ligawan stage happens.

Today people are more straight forward. People get girlfriends in less than an hour and some get more than 2 or 3 girlfriends at the same time.
